The short answer

We collect an email address only when you type one into the subscribe form, store it to send the monthly briefing, and delete it on request. There is no advertising network, no tracking pixel and no profile built about you.

1. What we collect

An email address, if you type one into the subscribe form. A name, email address, topic and message, if you use the contact form. That is the entirety of what you actively give us.

We do not ask for a date of birth, an address, a phone number, a treatment history or anything about your health, and you should not send us any of that. This is a publication, not a clinic.

2. Why we hold it

An email address is held for one purpose: to send the monthly briefing. Contact form messages are held to answer them and to keep a record of corrections.

We do not build a profile about you, we do not score you, and we do not track what you read.

3. Where it is stored

Subscriber records are stored in a key value store operated by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which also serves this site. The record consists of the email address, the form it came from, the date and the country code the request arrived with.

The site is a set of static files. There is no user account, no login, no comment system and no user generated content.

4. What we do not do

We do not run an advertising network. We do not use third party advertising cookies. We do not embed tracking pixels from social platforms. We do not sell, rent or share the subscriber list, including with newsletter sponsors, who buy a line in an email and not the people who read it.

We do not use analytics that build a profile of an individual visitor across sites.

5. How long we keep it

Subscriber records are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, and are removed after that. Contact messages are kept while a matter is open and for a reasonable period afterwards so that a correction has a record, then deleted.

6. Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be deleted. Ask through the contact form and we will do it.

Unsubscribing is one click in any email and takes effect immediately.

Your rights under UK data protection law are explained by the Information Commissioner's Office, which is also where you can complain if you think we have handled your data badly.

We link to regulators, health services, professional bodies and research indexes. Those organisations have their own privacy practices and we are not responsible for them.

Two archive pages on this site carry a single disclosed editorial link each, described in our editorial standards. The same applies: once you leave, you are on somebody else's site.

8. Changes

If this page changes materially, the review date at the foot of the page changes with it. We do not make quiet changes to it, for the same reason we do not make quiet changes to anything else.

No commercial links on this page

This article contains no affiliate links, no sponsored placements and no links to any clinic, practitioner, brand or retailer. Nobody paid for it and nobody previewed it. We name no clinic in Glasgow because we have assessed none, and a publication that has not assessed a business has nothing useful to say about whether it is good.

Two archive pages on this site carry a single disclosed editorial link each, and both are labelled on the page itself. This is not one of them. The whole arrangement is set out in our editorial standards.

Nothing here is medical advice. Speak to a qualified clinician about your own case.

The monthly briefing

One email a month. Regulation, evidence and pricing, written for the person paying.

One email a month at most. It carries a single clearly labelled sponsor line, which never influences what we write. No clinic buys a mention in the editorial part of it. Unsubscribe in one click.
